Sunrise over Lak Xao. We woke early for a one-hour drive to the Vietnam border. We were a bit late for the opening of the border-crossing, which was already swarming with locals shipping goods. It took an hour or so to process 10 people through 5 lineups (Laos departure, Vietnam passport control, health questionnaire, luggage xray and currency exchange). Viewed: 372 times.

Our trip to Hanoi started along the Ho Chi Minh Trail, where they were building more roads through the mountains. Viewed: 367 times.

The highway to Hanoi was continously urbanized. We stopped at a stretch of "Nem" stores where I bought a mysterious package of banana leaves. It turned out that each one was a sausage of pork and mung bean noodles. Viewed: 398 times.
